Disaster Relief in Coshocton, Guernsey and |
Every day, the American Red Cross of Coshocton County and Ohio Hills responds to house and apartment fires and other disasters. Fires in homes, apartments and other buildings are the most frequent causes. But natural disasters such as tornadoes, floods and winter storms also cause dozens of deaths and millions of dollars in property damage annually. With the help of people like you who donate their time and money, we: |
- Supply vouchers that provide food, clothing, temporary shelter, and personal care items to disaster victims.
- Supply vouchers to replace, prescription medication, and occupational supplies.
- Provide needed physical and mental health services.
- Feed emergency workers.
- Handle inquiries from concerned family members outside the disaster area.
- Refer disaster victims to other resources.

Disaster Action Teams are Ready |
The American Red Cross is ready to help when a house or apartment fire occurs no matter where and when in Coshocton, Guernsey and Noble counties. The Chapter has volunteer Disaster Action Teams (DAT) positioned in each of the three counties. The DATs consist of 3-4 trained disaster workers who are on-call during evening weekdays and on weekends to respond to house and apartment fires at a moment’s notice. They are normally on-call one week per month. DATs assess fire damage, offer emotional support to console families, and provide them with immediate emergency assistance, based on each individual case. |

Disaster Relief Elsewhere in the United States |
Trained volunteers and paid staff from the Chapter have repeatedly provided disaster relief services throughout the country. In recent years, they have traveled to New Orleans, Texas, Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., Tennessee, Oklahoma, and North Carolina. These disaster workers provide the full range of relief services to victims of tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods and other disasters. Meanwhile, here at home, other Red Cross workers help local people communicate with family members who live in the areas affected by these national disasters. |
